Bull In The Ring

The Ox

Incase you were wondering why this description was here, I was born under this sign.  Thus to truly understand my interactions with various people and situations, you must first understand a bit about me.  Now obviously this is not  100% accurate, but it is enough of a base to see why some things bring joy and happiness to my heart and why some things make me fucking crazy.  I hope you enjoy.

Those born under the influence of the Ox are fortunate to be stable and persevering. The typical Ox is a tolerant person with strong character. Not many people could equal the resolution and fearlessness the Ox exhibits when deciding to accomplish a task or an objective. As we used this great creature long ago to plow the soil day after day, so do Ox people labor through their daily responsibilities either at work or at home without complaint or gripe. Oxen know they will succeed through hard work and sustained effort and find no truth or benefit in concocting get-rich-quick schemes.

THE WATER OX 1913 AND 1973

The Water element gives the Ox a flexibility and liberty. Water Oxen are as hard-working as anyone, and particularly systematic, and are probably the quickest-thinking of the other elemental Oxen. They are much more prepared than the other Oxen to recognize the pints of view of others and to think about their ideas and suggestions, making them easy to work with in a business environment. They generally consider the feelings of others which makes them good roommates or partners. In addition, their sincerity and patience ensures their popularity with friends, peers and family.

7/05/2011 - Pride before the fall.

Had to dial it back a bit on this morning's run.  We have a tendency to believe in the immortality that we see in others.  It is all to easy to apply this sense of invulnerability to ourselves  But the reality is there is a very real human component that has to be addressed.  That component is none other than our old friend FATIGUE.  Fatigue can take you off you're game just enough that end up doing something stupid.  For example, it was fatigue that took this otherwise fall free, fairly nimble person that runs and created a bumbling idiot in the last few miles attained during this past Burning  River 100.  Tripping and falling on trail in the dark is not the picture of athletic prowess.  It is a good idea to recognize fatigue for what it truly is.  When this little fiend decides to show it's face , it is up to you as the athlete to determine what will be needed to continue.  In the case of this morning, "Sean don't be a dumbass and just walk and stretch".  Inner voice.  A solid ROM routine and a bit of light strength training should reset the structure and get it ready to dance on the FOB in no time.  This will be no disrepecting the damage this last race did to the body so time to heal is just what "the other" needs.  After all this is suppose to be for fun....Right??!?!?

9/07/2011  Facing our Demons

The easy thing for me to do is sit here and tell everyone what they should and should not be doing in wellness/fitness worlds.  It would be easy for me to say "eat this or not that"  or even "give me twenty minutes twice a week"  and you will become the god or goddess of you're dreams.  Well I can not say that and will not try to impress upon you that the forementioned is the way to achieving you're goals.  For what ever reason our lives are the way they are because of ourselves.  Our actions and thoughts create the world around us that we move and live in.  It is these very thoughts and actions that mold our futures and haunt our past.  I have been untrusting of these methods since the realization that progress is in the control of the user.  I have enjoyed the feel of resistance that could potentially kill me.  I have entered environments that most would never venture.  The knowledge gained from such trial and error is this.  It is not the ability to finish a race or pick up a car, or even swim the ocean.  It is the willingness to face whatever demon, internal or external, stands in you're way to achieving you're goal.  This could come in the form of injury or it could even be something as simple as a discouraging word.  Bottom line is we have given life to the excuses that stop us from moving forward.  The oxen finds comfort in hard work.  When times are not as they should be you will find the beast working even harder than before.  What others see as labor, I will see as peaceful and productive. This is my way and I do not fear it.  By the way, i will go ahead and list the dick head cop who took it upon himself to advise me over loud speaker to ride on the sidewalk at 4:30 this rainy am as a demon.  But I should thank him for the drive to finish one of the fastest morning rides of my life.  This doughnut is to you buddy.
