"Most distance training is just mileage — pile up easy miles and hope racing speed shows up on its own. It doesn't. The gap between a good cross country runner and a great one is neuromuscular speed and the ability to hold form when it hurts — exactly what pure mileage never trains. The HPL Kick Program is a dedicated speed block: five structured sessions a week built to sharpen turnover, raise VO2max, and build the finishing kick that decides close races.
The program is written in effort zones, not fixed paces. A Week 1 time trial calibrates every zone to the individual athlete, so the same six weeks works whether the goal race is a 5K or a half marathon — the quality sessions stay identical, only the easy-day and long-run mileage around them scales with the target distance.
Two benchmark checkpoints — College-Ready at Week 3, Elite-Kick at Week 6 — are measured as improvement against the athlete's own baseline, giving a clear, fair read on progress at any level.
Built for high school cross country athletes preparing to race at the college level, and college athletes sharpening toward elite-level racing. $47."
