Wrestling doesn't care how strong an athlete is in a vacuum — it cares how strong, explosive, and mentally sharp they still are in the third period, on a cut weight, against someone trying to break them. The HPL Takedown Program is a 6-week, 5-day-per-week training program built for HS-to-college wrestlers, designed around the specific physical demands of the sport instead of generic strength and conditioning.
What's inside:
- Day 1 — Explosive Strength. Power cleans, jump variations, and med ball throws to build the hip power behind every shot and lift.
- Day 2 — Live-Match Conditioning. An interval framework built directly on real match structure — work-to-rest ratios that mirror period length and between-period rest, progressing week to week from moderate full-period rounds (Weeks 1–2) to competition-length rest (Weeks 3–4) to back-to-back rounds with no rest to simulate a tough tournament day (Weeks 5–6).
- Day 3 — Positional Strength. Neck bridges and harness work, farmer carries, grip work, and anti-rotation core training built to survive ties, scrambles, and long matches.
- Day 4 — Scramble Conditioning. Short, max-effort bursts with incomplete recovery — sled work, sprints, or live scrambling — to train the exact demand of a real scramble, not steady-state cardio.
- Day 5 — Mobility & Recovery. Hip and shoulder mobility, mat-specific movement prep, and low-load recovery work to keep athletes moving well through a long season.
- Weekly Sample Sessions. A full written-out sample week with exact sets, reps, and exercises for each training day.
- Benchmark Checkpoints. Clear Week 3 ("Match-Ready") and Week 6 ("Tournament-Ready") standards across interval capacity, grip endurance, explosive power, and scramble recovery — so progress is measurable, not a guess.
Pairs with the HPL Cut Program so weight management and training run on the same weekly calendar — because conditioning gains shouldn't get undone by an aggressive cut late in the week.
